Colorful excursion destination

Away from the Reformation highlights, you can get to know a different side of Lutherstadt Wittenberg in the Piesteritzer Werkssiedlung. The idyllic estate was built in 1916 as a workers' housing estate and is still a tranquil residential area with a bright, friendly character today. Take a stroll through the colorful estate, take in the beautiful front gardens and take a deep breath in this relaxed, car-free area of the city. The yellow facades of the houses and the many green spaces add to the special charm of the estate. The heart of the estate, "Piesteritzer Hof", was intended as a department store and is now an event location for various events.

History of the settlement

The factory housing estate in Piesteritz was built in 1916 to provide suitable living space for more than a thousand people. At that time, ordinary industrial workers and factory managers lived side by side in the houses in order to strengthen the community of the workforce. As part of Expo 2000, the estate was extensively renovated true to the original and has since shone in its new, old glory. Incidentally, walkers can move around freely here, as the Piesteritz factory estate is the first car-free estate in Germany. The yellow facades of the houses and the many green spaces add to the special charm of the estate.
