Experience a lot of culture in a small space
Lutherstadt Wittenberg is home to numerous sights in a very small space. Along the main street of the picturesque old town alone, you can already cross numerous cultural highlights off your list. At one end you'll find the Castle Church with its world-famous Theses Door, and just a stone's throw away is the Town Church, where Martin Luther preached for 30 years. If you turn into the historic Cranach Courtyard shortly before, you can admire, for example, the print shop where Luther's pamphlets were printed. A short way further along Collegienstraße you will reach the Melanchthon House, where everything about the life of the "Teacher of Germany" is on display. Shortly after the Melanchthon House you will find the Luther House with the Augusteum, where you can visit the largest museum of the history of the Reformation in the world.
In addition to the highlights of the city's Reformation history, there are several other exciting destinations for your sightseeing tour. You should visit the Piesteritz Workers' Estate, the first and largest car-free housing estate in Germany with impressive architecture. An architectural tour will also take you to the Hundertwasser School, which is home to the Luther Melanchthon High School. The artists' houses of the Wittenberg housing association also offer an interesting sight. Here, the "Roof Illusions" were created as paintings on the walls, as well as the "Reformation Garden," which depicts Martin Luther and his companions.
Even modern Wittenberg cannot be completely without Luther. One of the most beautiful and emblematic symbols of the connection between the entire world and Lutherstadt Wittenberg is the Luther Garden. It consists of 500 trees donated from all over the world for the anniversary of the Reformation.
The WelterbeCard gives you numerous benefits at many of the sights in Lutherstadt Wittenberg as well as in the entire Anhalt-Dessau-Wittenberg World Heritage Region, for example free admission to Luther memorials.
You can also explore Lutherstadt Wittenberg and the region quite comfortably by public transport. No more annoying search for a parking space. The world heritage sites in Wittenberg, Wörlitz and Dessau, for example, are connected by bus line 304.
