The science center
What do hunger in the Third World, the environmental compatibility of trucks, daily dental care or the artificial production of natural substances have to do with Wittenberg's historic marketplace? All of these things are closely examined behind the walls of the historic science center and can be worked out in a playful way. On the west side of the marketplace, the futurea Science Center paints a picture of modern chemistry that may surprise some people: concrete, imaginative, amazing in its presentation. Here, people not only see with their eyes, but also with their hands. Technical and scientific correlations are presented simply and vividly - with playful experiments, computer-assisted touch screens or moving images. A tour leads visitors across the different floors through eight themed worlds.
The exhibition
On three floors, you can interactively explore the latest developments in chemistry at the futurea Science Center. On the first floor, the exhibition areas focus on the topic of nutrition. Here you can learn impressively how chemistry has revolutionized agriculture, for example. The second floor is dedicated to the topic of plants and elements. The second floor is dedicated to a topic that may seem rather daunting at first: urea, which is produced in the Piesteritz nitrogen works, among other places. The highlight is probably the detailed model of the SKW Nitrogen Works Piesteritz, where you can clearly understand the entire production chain.
