Permanent exhibition with special installations

Experiencing the history of the Ascanians up close - that is the central point of the exhibition. With impressive light installations, cross-fading technology and projections, visitors are given the feeling of being in the original 13th century cathedral. Travel through time, take in the projections and imagine what it must have felt like to stand in this huge cathedral in the 13th century. Experience unique insights into a time and noble family that was almost forgotten after its extinction in 1422. In fact, for the first time in history, the Ascanian reign is the focus of a presentation in the Historical City Information Center. And this in the place where the family burial place of the noble family and their most important residence were.

History found anew

A far-reaching discovery during construction work in 2009 led to the need to rethink the history of Lutherstadt. For on the site of the old Franciscan monastery, where today the monastery church with historical city information stands, the burial place of Duke Rudolf II of Saxony-Wittenberg was found. He ruled as an elector from 1356 to 1370. This makes it clear that the Ascanian dynasty guided the fortunes of the city long before the time of the Reformation. The sensational find led to the fact that today, in this place, the history of the Ascanians in and around Wittenberg is brought closer to you in a unique way.
