The building

You have certainly not seen a school like this before! The curved shapes, the green roof and the bright colors characterize the face of the Luther Melanchthon High School in a unique way. The building was rebuilt in the 1990s according to plans by the famous artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser and completed in 1999. If you are looking for a special place in Wittenberg even apart from the Reformation, you will find it here! Inside the school, you can learn about the building in the school's information room and also take home a suitable souvenir or two.

The emergence

In the early 1990s, students in art class thought about how to make the previous school building more beautiful for students. The students' designs all reminded them of the buildings by the artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser. Without further ado, the school decided to contact the well-known artist. And indeed: Hundertwasser personally designed the plans for the exterior façade of the building, which were also implemented in exactly the same way during the renovation phase. The interior of the school is also reminiscent of Hundertwasser's typical art style, but here the students and other artists were allowed to immortalize themselves in this style. With this renovation, a place was created where the students like to spend time and which is also absolutely worth seeing.
