“Even if I knew that tomorrow the world would go to pieces, I would still plant my apple tree" Martin Luther

In front of the town walls of Lutherstadt Wittenberg visitors will find a beautiful park, the Luther Garden. The park is a project of the Lutheran churches, which have set a goal to plant a total of 500 trees in the park and around the town until 2017. This was to commemorate in 2017 the 500 year anniversary of the Reformation, where on 31st October 1517 Luther nailed his theses on to the church door in Lutherstadt Wittenberg. Take a stroll through the park until you reach a special plaza in the shape of the Luther Rose. From here there are seven paths that symbolically lead out into the world. The trees along the avenues are from different continents and regions of the Lutheran World Federation. Between the avenues arise orchards with native fruit varieties. The park offers the perfect opportunity during your tour of the town to come and rest, let the impressions sink in and simply let your mind wander.

Tip: Sponsor a tree

Churches from all over the world and from all faiths and religious institutions as well as communities are invited to a symbolic tree planting and sponsoring of a tree. At the same time a corresponding tree must be planted at their location and labeled with a reference of the partnership to the Luther Garden in Lutherstadt Wittenberg.
