Every year hundreds of thousands of visitors are witnesses to the historic moment of June 13, 1525, when former monk Martin Luther and the escaped nun Katharina von Bora said “I Do”. For more than 20 years, the people of Wittenberg have been recalling the wedding of Luther.
Celebrate when the bride and his 2,000 wedding guests move through the alleys of the old town of Lutherstadt Wittenberg. Look forward to colorful vestments, musicians, jugglers, knights, merchants, Wittenberg delicacies, fanfares, historical warehouses and markets, as well as the historic festive procession crowning Luther's wedding in Lutherstadt Wittenberg.
On Saturday, June 10, 2017, the popular historical festive procession begins with Martin Luther, Katharina von Bora and her 2,000 wedding guests in the old town of the Lutherstadt Wittenberg. There are also fanfares, numerous music groups, witticists and all kinds of animals such as horses, donkeys, geese and goats.
Afterwards Katharina and Luther dined in the circle of friends at the richly decorated wedding table in the market square. Dances and music of the Renaissance, as well as goblins, entertain the audience.
Wittenberg 's Lord Mayor Torsten Zugehör (parteilos) declared the annual festival "Luther' s Wedding", which was celebrated annually, free of charge for all: "We open not only our hearts and arms, but also the gates to thank the citizens who have been actively and voluntarily involved in the preparations for this great year, "he said.

Historical children's festival at Luther's wedding
On Sunday, June 11, 2017, 300 children from clubs, kindergartens and schools of the Lutherstadt Wittenberg start to a feast. All small participants wear beret, cloak, jerkin, or other historical robes. Special view: A small Luther couple leads the move. The little ones are accompanied by the musicians Hans Spielmann and the playmaker and the juggler Rebasius Funkenflug, which not only amuses the young visitors.
The procession begins at the Luther house, passes the Collegienstraße to the market square and the Marktbühne.
Historic areas of experience in the city center
In the old town, you will find a lot of traders and landlords with their goods. Children can participate in games for small knights. You can experience the historical camps of country farms, peasants, town watchers, messenger walkers, fanfares or marketers at the original sites of the Reformation: the squares at the town church and the Schlosskirche (Castle Church) are as much a place as the courtyard of the ancient Leucorea University or the Cranach Courtyards. Craftsmen show how their goods are manufactured and musicians and jugglers entertain in the yards, squares and streets.
