Wittenberg Zoo
The Wittenberg Zoo is located in the middle of the city park of Lutherstadt and is . The heart of the zoo is Saxony-Anhalt's only cold-water aquarium with about 25 different regional fish species. The enclosures are home to various mammals as well as over 20 species of birds, for example parrots and even an eagle owl. Watch the meerkats in their bustling activity or visit the funny monkeys. The petting enclosure with goats, sheep and rabbits and the beautifully landscaped turtle pond are especially popular with younger visitors.
In addition, the Wittenberg Zoo is a recognized foster home for native and endangered wild animal species. Animals in need of help are taken in here and rehabilitated with much love and care.
Alaris Butterfly Park
In the 1000m² extensive tropical landscape of the Alaris Butterfly Park you can observe over 140 butterfly species in all sizes and colors. Under palm trees, banana trees, coffee bushes, bromeliads, orchids and many other exotic plants, hundreds of colorful butterflies from all over the world will buzz around you. With a little luck, you can observe the mating and even the hatching of these beautiful creatures.
In addition to the typical spring representatives such as the Asian lark butterflies, you can also see the Indian leaves, the bright blue sky butterflies as well as the nimble banana butterflies hovering through the air. In April, the first Atlas silkmoths also hatch. With wingspans of up to 30 cm, they are the giants among the butterflies.
Wittenberg Tropical Night
The Tropical Night at Alaris Butterfly Park annually invites visitors to an enchanting evening in the illuminated rainforest. On this evening you will see the butterfly park with completely new eyes. Exciting guided tours including a snack will introduce you to the butterfly species and their habits. A special highlight that can only be seen on this evening is the wedding flight of the banana butterflies, which whirl through the air at breathtaking speed.

NABU Center Wittenberg
Young and old nature explorers can discover the local nature on an approx. 2.2 km long signposted circular trail, accompanied by a nature trail. The well-maintained trail system leads mainly through various deciduous forest stands, mixed forest as well as some small pine stands. Past forest meadows, dry and semi-dry grasslands and a small picturesque lake in the middle of the city forest, the Mummelsee. Along the entire length, there are many display boards that provide information about the animals, plants and habitats of the city forest.
With the use of the recreational facility in the Wittenberg city forest, NABU assumed responsibility for various species of wild and farm animals, such as pygmy rabbits, domestic rabbits and guinea pigs, wild boars, fallow deer, mouflon, goats and sheep of various breeds.
Mountain zoo hall
Experience animal fun at Germany's only mountain zoo in Halle (Saale)! With expansive and impressive views over the city and countryside as well as great biodiversity, the Halle Zoological Garden on the Reilsberg offers a great destination for families.
Thanks to many recently modernized and newly built enclosures, e.g. for fur seals, elephants, big cats and crocodiles, zoo visitors can enjoy impressive adventure areas. Instead of huge enclosures, visitors can get up close and personal with lions, tigers and the like behind panoramic windows. Predatory cats and elephants can even be observed from a bird's eye view from the visitor terraces in the outdoor areas.
The Halle Zoological Garden is ideal for an eventful day with the family and delights visitors of all ages. Despite its hillside location, the serpentine paths also make it a zoo of short, barrier-free and thus easily accessible routes. The next animal enclosure, one of the impressive viewpoints, the next playground or one of the beautifully situated beer gardens is always just a few steps away.
